ORIGINS OF SURVIVAL HORROR: Sweet Home #SweetHome #SweetHomeReview #SurvivalHorror #MonstersOfTheWeek #OriginsOfSurvivalHorror In this mini-series, Origins of Survival Horror, we’re going to explore the games that preceded Resident Evil (the game that coined the term), but that were already full-blown survival horror games through and through. Today, with this inaugural episode, we start our sojourn through the annals of Survival Horror history with the predecessor, the game that Resident Evil was originally intended to be a full-blown remake of: Sweet Home, the 1989 Japan-only Famicom Horror JRPG that was released alongside the Kiyoshi Kurosawa movie of the same name. This is a fascinating piece of video game history and still, to this day, a phenomenally good game on its own! ORIGINS OF SURVIVAL HORROR: ALONE IN THE DARK #AloneInTheDark #AloneInTheDarkReview #SurvivalHorror #MonstersOfTheWeek #OriginsOfSurvivalHorror In this mini-series, Origins of Survival Horror, we’re going to explore the games that preceded Resident Evil (the game that coined the term), but that were already full-blown survival horror games through and through. Today, we’re covering the trailblazing 1992 horror adventure Alone in the Dark, developed by Infogrames and directed by Frérérick Raynal. Alone in the Dark was both technically and game-design wise absolutely ahead of its time, pioneering the fixed-camera/pre-rendered background technique paired with pretty much all the signature elements that Resident Evil would later define as Survival Horror. Alone in the Dark would later be awarded the first-ever 3D Survival Horror game retroactively by the Guinnes Book of Records. Let’s talk about what makes this game such a fascinating milestone of video game history, and thennnn also explore the not-so-shiny legacy of the franchise down through the years - up until today. Atlus (yes, the SMT/Persona guys) also tried their hand at it with the wonderfully experimental subterranean horror-adventure Hellnight (known as Dark Messiah in Japan). It came out in 1998 in Japan for the PS1 and was only released in a few European countries in a translated version in December 1999, with few copies and fewer game journalists grasping what this game attempted to do - resulting in abysmal review scores and Atlus ultimately dropping Survival Horror for good. Which is a damn shame, because Hellnight was highly inventive, pioneering many mechanics that have become tried and true staples in survival horror gaming. Hello all, in this video we will exploring Resident Evil. This was one of the first games i ever played and so its a really personal game to me. I have chosen to follow Jill's story, as there are not huge differences between the two and there is no scenario A and B. Jill's story was also the one i was always used to do when i was younger. If you would like to see me do a video on Chris' story as well, please let me know and i can so that for you! I hope you enjoy, thank you so much for watching! The discussion of survival horror vs. action horror has been a fairly heated topic since probably the launch of Resident Evil 4, whose undeniable success caused a major shift for the subgenre and made other franchises desperate for the same acclaim – Silent Hill, Alone in the Dark, and more. But what exactly is "survival horror?" How did it appear? And what are its most important elements? In this video, I seek to answer those questions and give my own views on what makes a game "true" survival horror. ➤ CHAPTERS 0:00 Introduction 2:45 A Brief History, Part I: The Roots, Growth, and Peak 7:53 A Brief History, Part II: The Curse of Mass Appeal 13:09 A Brief History, Part III: Aftermath and Return to Form 17:49 What is Survival Horror? – Preface 22:14 What is Survival Horror? – My Answer 33:47 In Conclusion Instagram: 🤍 #ResidentEvil #SilentHill #SurvivalHorror ➤ MY OTHER VIDEOS Why Video Games Need Piracy – The Industry's Preservation Problem: 🤍 2020: The Year of Video Game Remakes: 🤍 Resident Evil Showcase Breakdown and Maiden Demo Impressions: 🤍 Cyberpunk 2077 Review: 🤍 Yakuza: Live a Dragon Review: 🤍 The Growing Problem of Video Game File Size: 🤍 Analysis: Devil May Cry and the Perception of Combat Depth: 🤍

Alone In The Dark is a classic game series that has, with the times, sorta faded into mild obscurity. When you think of the survival horror genre you often think of the REAL popular titles, specifically the ones that seemingly pioneered the genre on the PS1 in the late 1990s, such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, and more. And with these franchises becoming bigger and continuing in our day and age (Well, for the most part) and with the surge of other popular titles in the genre such as Outlast, Amnesia, SOMA, The Evil Within, Alien: Isolation, Dead Space, Alan Wake, and more, the one title and series that really began the genre is often forgotten when the said genre is mentioned. That one series of course, being Alone In The Dark. A wacky little survival horror with those fixed camera angles, horrible controls, and a lovable protagonist whom they ruined in the 2008 reboot, besides the original trilogy from 1992, 1993 and 1995 respectively, I'm gonna be talking about The New Nightmare, a reboot for PS1, PS2 and Dreamcast that came out in 2001, that travesty of a reboot from 2008 on Xbox 360 and PS3, and of course, the latest bad entry, the online Illumination, which came out in 2015. Once again, I am very sorry about the huge delay! The video was due all the way back in Christmas, but due to some issues with me switching editing softwares and needing time to adjust plus some issues with life in general, I had to delay this video heavily, but at least it's another short length movie huh? I think I'm gonna go back to making some shorter videos after this, so expect more frequent uploads now that I'm also used to the new software hehe, thanks for watching! Subscribe for Daily Videos! On January 12, 1996, the original "Resident Evil" game was released for the Sony PlayStation in Japan. The survival horror game was developed and published by Capcom, and it quickly became a popular and influential title in the genre, with several sequels and spin-offs. The game was later released in other regions, including North America and Europe, and it has been re-released and remastered for multiple platforms over the years. The original "Resident Evil" game was the first in the series and was a major influence on the survival horror genre. It introduced many of the series' signature elements, such as fixed camera angles, tank controls, and a focus on puzzle-solving and resource management. The game also had a strong emphasis on atmosphere, with a spooky mansion setting, and a B-movie inspired storyline, featuring zombies and other monsters. It also featured full-motion video cutscenes, which was uncommon in games at the time. The game was a commercial success and received positive reviews from critics, who praised its atmosphere, graphics, and sound design. It is considered a classic and a landmark in the gaming industry. The future of the "Resident Evil" franchise is likely to continue with more games, remasters of old games and possibly additional media such as movies and TV shows. The series has a strong fan base and has been consistently successful, so it is likely that Capcom will continue to develop new games in the series.

It was a title whose development cycle saw a lot of turbulence and its unconventional genre-blend was not well received by the gaming press at the time. ILL NESS is a first-person atmospheric horror action game with horrifying alien creatures that inhabit inside people while turning them into puppets. The player will have what is missing in many games of a similar genre; in ILL NESS, you will not have to hide in dark corners, trying to escape invincible monsters. The player will have everything needed to make even the scariest and most horrifying opponent tremble. You will have to dive into a cruel world where there is no single living soul left and unveil the terrible mystery of Adam Bedford by fighting a truly terrifying alien evil. #horrorgaming #horror #shorts
Remember when horror games were dead? Of course you do. It wasn't that long ago, and for fans of the genre, it was depressing. Beloved franchises belonging to the genre had either gone completely dormant or had decided that they no longer wanted to do horror, new horror games were hardly being made, and the industry had collectively decided that there just wasn't a market out there for these wonderful, creepy experiences. Everything changed over the last few years, thanks in large part to the resurgence of Resident Evil, and now, we're in what feels like a second golden era of survival horror games. We've had several excellent experiences in this genre in recent years, and what's even better is that there's way, way more coming in the near future- and beyond. Here, we're going to take a look at some of the biggest confirmed and rumoured upcoming horror games, and talk about some of the biggest details we know about them. We'll go in order of release, and after that, we'll talk about a couple of games that haven't been officially announced (though you probably already know what those are). Obviously, there will be stuff that we've missed out on, from smaller titles and indie productions to even upcoming expansions like with Resident Evil Village, so if you think of anything that we haven't spoken about in this feature, make sure to sound off in your comments.
